Vacation

I have some camping trips lined up for this summer and I am starting to get excited.  I really want to be prepared, and I want one of the longer camping trips to be comfortable!  I want to feel relaxed, not cramped and sweaty and stuck.  I was looking through Tales of a Junkaholique blog, and I can't help but be jealous. This girl really has her camping down!  I love the tent sooooooooooo much, where would you even buy something like that?  And look at the food they made on their camping trip!  You don't have to eat hot dogs when you camp??  I have a lot to learn.

Movies

I watched Unmade Beds today, a U.K. movie directed by Alexis Dos Santos.  I loved it so much, it's the first good movie I've seen in a while.  Maybe it's because it's the story of my life at 527 (a borderline squatter house, with a rotating cast of characters), or maybe it's because I see some Michel Gondry in it.  I don't know, I mean it is like a lot of movies I have seen before, but less cheesy and with amazing cinematography.  Watch it on Netflix now... now!

Sad

This post is a little more depressing than my usual ones.  But I can't shake this image from yesterday, it is haunting me.  On my drive home from work, I was one block away from my house and right in front of me a woman lay collapsed.  She had just been shot, I mean I must have missed the actual shooting by seconds. Hardly anyone was on the scene, maybe 8 kids, one of which was grabbing for cloth to compress the gun shot wound on her chest.  As I drove by the kid who was by the woman's side, made eye contact with me through my car window, and he just had a sheer look of shock and panic, yet he was still able to take control of the situation.  I wonder if I was there a minute earlier and saw it happen, how I would react?   Would I be able to take control of a situation like that?  Would I know what to do?  Dazed and confused I drove to the end of the block and parked, a few seconds after I got out of the car I heard sirens - I just went in my apartment and slowly went about my normal business.  According to Buffalo News, it was a 21 year old woman, most likely a student from the college campus across the street.  You hear about people being shot all of the time in Buffalo, and sure maybe not too far from my neighborhood.  But seeing it first hand, one block down from my house has me a little freaked to say the least.  Especially because I'm pretty sure this girl happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, she didn't look like the type of girl who was involved in anything that result in being shot.  She is in critical condition - I hope everything will be okay.
Blahhhh on that note, here is a happy Fleetwood Mac video from Tusk,  which my boyfriend introduced me to yesterday- he has an even better song (the ledge) on his blog.

Beds

When I was in eleventh grade I replaced my bed with a hammock.  I slept in the hammock the whole year.  It wasn't necessarily more comfortable, but I was determined none the less.  It just seemed like such a romantic idea.  Well, this boat tops my hammock - for sure!  It's so great!  If I ever buy a house in the catskills- I am going to make a boat bed....

Studio

I really want to clear the clutter out of my bedroom, and apartment in general.  All of my block printing, and knitting projects are creating too much clutter, not to mention I have an overwhelming amount of fabric and supplies.  Plus, it's uncomfortable blockprinting on the floor, and sewing on the living room couch and coffee table.  I'm trying to talk my two girl friends into renting a space with me to split the cost.  If I do ever get a studio space here are the dream objects I would love to fill it with.

Ideas

My ideas folder on my desktop is overflowing with digital images.  I'm in the middle of a gazillion projects, but I'm going to pull up some of my favorites, so I can remind myself of the things I want to do next.  Some of them aren't even projects for me but projects I want my boyfriend to do for me.  Ha... well my birthday is coming up so maybe he'll indulge me...  Unfortunately when I save these images it doesn't record where I have taken them from.  If anyone knows, send me a message so I can give the credit to these creative geniuses!

Movie

I watched Exit through the Gift Shop this weekend, for the second time.  A documentary about graffiti art, more specifically about Banksy and Thierry Guetta, a filmmaker trying to be a graffiti artist.  It's interesting and funny, and the art is amazing... well some of it.

Vacation

Every year for the past four years, Peter and I have gone to Maine for our summer vacation.  Some years we went alone, just the two of us, and others with a huge huge group of friends.  I am madly in love with Maine, and all the memories I have of being there.  However, I miss the beach.  I grew up going to the beach (Bethany Beach in Delaware specifically) every summer.  The routine always went something like this: pack the cooler, set up umbrellas and chairs, float in the ocean for an hour or two, eat sandy pb&j sandwiches, bury your brother in the sand, come home and take a shower outside, eat a great meal, and hope hope that the arcade and candy store were in the cards for the evening.
Well, this year I booked five nights camping in Lewes, Delaware (a fifteen minute drive from Bethany!) on a campground right on the ocean!  It's like the cheapest trip I have ever planned, and much closer than trips to Maine have been.  I'm going to take the extra money and invest it in some camping luxuries - so it is less roughing it and more comfortable.  I'm thinking air mattress, big canopy or screen hut for daytime hanging out (get away from the bugs), fresh seafood - lobsters, crabs, scallops, mussels mmm.., things like that.  It's nice to have something concrete to look forward to, I've been working so much and it's been so long since my last vacation.  Here are some great old school beach photos to encourage daydreaming about summer.

Food

I am way over due for a dinner party.  My friends and I have been slacking, I can't even remember the last get together we have had... Christmas I think.  I love when we all get together and eat lots of delicious food, drink wine, listen to music, tell stories.  Below are some images of inspiration for my future dinner party.
